A reminder to keep your pets safe during the season's first cold front
The season’s first cold front is expected arrive in Miami-Dade County this weekend. Miami-Dade County Animal Services recommends that all pets be kept inside with a warm place to sleep during any period of cold or inclement weather. Pets that cannot be brought inside the home need to have access to proper shelter and bedding for warmth.
A shelter for outdoor dogs is required, by law, at all times to protect the animal from the elements. It is crucial that puppies and senior dogs be kept indoors, especially at night as they do not tolerate cold weather well. Outdoor cats tend to seek warmth found under the hood of vehicles; therefore, if there are outdoor cats in your area, it is advisable to lightly tap the hood of your vehicle before entering to allow any cats the chance to escape prior to starting the engine.
