Miami-Dade Parks' Winter Camps offer kids adventure and fun this holiday season

MIAMI (December 12, 2017)

This winter break, your children can enjoy their time off from school with adventures and activities that’ll keep them engaged, while having fun and learning during Miami-Dade Parks’ Winter Break camps, December 26-29, 2017 and January 2-5, 2018, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., for kids ages 6-15. Early drop-off and late pickup are available for some camps.  Register online or on site at the locations below.

General Camps

Children ages 6-14 can participate in fitness activities, sports, arts & crafts, games and exciting field trips. Online registration is required. The cost is $40 – $90 per week, depending on the program. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.

Specialty Camps

Zoo Miami Winter Camp

Week 1 - Dec 26 – 29, 2017 - Wild Winter Wonderland

Campers will explore all the adaptations animals use to get through wild winters! From thick fur to long winter naps, campers will discover all the "cool" things animals can do! Enjoy the cooler weather with fun Zoo walks, scavenger hunts and animal encounters!

Week 2 - Jan 2 – 5, 2018 - Cool Careers

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a veterinarian at a Zoo!? What about a wildlife conservationist or a zookeeper? Learn about the many career choices for anyone that loves animals. Be ready to be put to work as we discover all the effort it takes to run an entire Zoo!

Camp Meal Plan

Zoo Miami is now offering a packed lunch provided by Zoo Miami's Taste of the Wild catering service! Meal Plan includes a main dish, two sides, and a drink.

Camp Adopt-an-Animal

Bring home all the fun of Camp and support the Zoo's wildlife enrichment by adopting an animal! Each week will feature a different animal based on the week's activities. Discounted package includes plush animal, certificate of adoption, fact sheet, and animal photo by Ron Magill that will be sent home with your child at the end of the day.

All camps are available for children ages 4-12 and run from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m, with extended care from 4 - 5:30 p.m. at no additional cost and available upon request. Miami EcoAdventures Winter Camps

Children ages 6-14 will explore the wild side of parks in this nature-based camp packed with fun and educational programming. Campers will perform scientific experiments, go on environmental fieldtrips, and engage in athletic activities in the great outdoors while under the safety of our staff's supervision. Fieldtrip fees are additional.

Deering Estate

The Deering Estate offers two Winter Camp sessions for children, ages 6-14.

Session 1: December 26-29, 2017, All About the Natives
Campers will hike, explore, and experiment to learn about the important role that South Florida’s native plants and animals play in our protected habitats, and how Native Americans interacted with those species on our property. Session 2: January 2-5, 2018, Find Your Habitat
Campers, will get to explore some of the Deering Estate’s ecosystems – Pine Rockland, Hardwood Hammock, Mangrove Forest, and Salt Marsh, focusing on the characteristics that define each, including plant and animal life. Camps for aspiring young golfers

Miami-Dade Parks offers several camps at various locations for the aspiring young golfer. Must register in person.

Crandon Golf Academy is offering two sessions, for either half-day or full-day camps, for ages 4-15. Cost is $250 per week for half-day session and $500 per week for full-day session. For details, call Zachary Newell at 401-741-4304 or visit

Junior Golf Camp at Crandon Golf for children ages 4-15, includes a curriculum including full-swing with video analysis, short game, putting, golf etiquette and rules, with course management and strategy. Junior Golf Camp at the Country Club of Miami - The Whole Game - Taught by PGA Professional Larry Levow and the Whole Game Golf School for children ages 8-15. Covers golf fundamentals, full-swing and short game instruction for junior golfers or younger with previous golf experience. Raices Specialty Visual & Performing Arts Winter Camp at Miller Drive Park

Children ages 6-14 will explore several styles and forms of visual and performing arts: painting and drawing, photography, acting, fashion design and more. Your child will also play tennis, basketball and learn swimming safety (weather permitting). Field trip destinations include art galleries, museums and the movies. Cost is $100 per week, plus a one-time annual registration fee of $12; early drop off and late pick up is available at no additional charge. Call 305-271-0812 for more information or to register.
