Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy with a volunteer day of service at Gwen Cherry Park

MIAMI (January 11, 2018)

Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces is seeking volunteers to come together for a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 9 a.m. - noon at Gwen Cherry Park 7090 NW 22nd Ave., Miami, FL. The event is presented by the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade in partnership with Miami Dolphins Special Teams powered by AARP Foundation. The day of service includes park beautification projects such as mulching, removing debris and painting.

Volunteers also will assist with the completion of the Gwen Cherry Park Community Garden, a project funded by the National Park and Recreation Association in collaboration with Disney, ESPN and ABC through the “Meet Me at the Park” Grant. The Community Garden project will focus on healthy living by educating residents about the importance of nutritious food and how to start growing fresh produce in areas where it may be hard to find.
