Caron Schiffman wins In the Company of Women Award in the Sports and Athletics Category
Caron Schiffman has been selected as one of 13 amazing women for the prestigious In the Company of Women award in the category of Sports and Athletics. Schiffman has dedicated her 37 year career as a fitness instructor and coach to teaching and motivating others to stay fit for life and find joy in doing so.
For 20 years, Schiffman was the Physical Education department head and instructor as well as science teacher at Nautilus Middle School. Along with these positions, she juggled the roles of cross country, girls volleyball and girls softball coach, and crime watch youth sponsor. Her two Nautilus Middle School Teacher of the Year awards during this time are a testament to her true devotion and excellence as teacher and coach.
She has been teaching sports, health, and personal fitness as a physical education instructor for 18 years until the present at Dr. Michael M Krop Senior High School, where she also is also a dual enrollment instructor and the faculty sponsor for the Best Buddies program. In her earlier years at the school, she coached cross country, volleyball, girls softball, and bowling.
A dedicated athlete herself, she has won numerous awards for triathlons and running events, and in 1996-1997 was ranked 33rd in triathlons in the United States in the 40-44 age group. This September, she will be heading to Australia 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final.
For the last four years, Schiffman has been training young and old alike at the Aventura Circle, through her program “Shape Up With Schiffy.” With the city as their gym, she leads her trainees in both running and weight training using incredibly creative, fun and challenging calisthenics. She has changed hundreds of lives in the process, inspiring many to exceed their own expectations and compete in races from 5Ks, to marathons to triathlons.
In addition to generously devoting her time to helping others through fitness, she has been involved in numerous charitable organizations such as the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the Morris Stein Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Susan B. Komen Foundation.
Schiffman is more than a lean athletic machine - she is an inspiring woman beloved by her students and trainees who invests tremendous energy, heart and soul into her service of others, helping to transform both their bodies and minds in the process.
Caron Schiffman will be honored at the 30th anniversary celebration on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the luxurious Coral Gables Country Club, 990 Alhambra Circle, in Coral Gables, FL.
