MLK Day of Service is held in conjunction with MLK Day of Service events in cities throughout the nation on this federal holiday dedicated to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and passion for serving others. In 1994, Congress designated the federal holiday as a national day of service -- "day on, not a day off." The observance is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."
