In the Company of Women Awards announces Business and Economics winner
Janet Kyle Altman has been selected as a 2019 In the Company of Women awardee in the category of Business and Economics. She is among 15 winners to be honored at the awards ceremony dinner on March 7 at the Coral Gables Country Club, 990 Alhambra Cir., in Coral Gables.
Altman is the Marketing Principal at Kaufman Rossin, one of the top CPA and advisory firms in the Southeast and one of the top 100 firms nationwide. She is the firm’s second woman to be named principal, and the first non-CPA. In addition to leading the firm’s marketing initiative, she launched Kaufman Rossin University, focusing on staff’s development beyond CPA requirements, because she believes that no one’s lifetime learning plan is ever complete as the world keeps evolving.
Outside the firm, Altman is widely recognized for her community leadership, including her service leading the boards of the Women’s Fund Miami-Dade and Friends of WLRN. She is also known for her prolific writing, lectures, seminars and work as a facilitator for national and local nonprofits. South Florida Business Journal named her one of the community’s Most Influential Business Women (2010).
She has made significant contributions to the advancement of women’s rights and the individual lives of women of all ages in Miami-Dade. As a leader of the Equal Pay Miami-Dade campaign (2017) for The Women’s Fund, Altman has garnered greater visibility for the issue of Equal Pay Miami-Dade, educating the community about a key statistic: “More than 20 percent of women in Miami-Dade live in poverty, and if women were paid equally, we could cut that number in half.” Most recently she was selected as coach for The Babson College Women Innovating Now (WIN) Lab, a program aimed at helping high-growth women entrepreneurs accelerate their entrepreneurial paths.
Alman is indeed a champion for women, utilizing her expertise in business and economics to ensure they have access to information, tools and support for success in the workforce and in bettering their lives. She is well deserving of In the Company of Women Awards’ Business and Economics recognition.
This marks the 31st year for the In the Company of Women Awards, presented by the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, in partnership with the Miami-Dade Commission for Women and the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade. The prestigious awards honor women who have excelled professionally and civically, and have contributed to women’s progress through their leadership and vision.
The event commemorates March’s Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day and will be extra special this year, as it is a signature celebration for the Parks Department’s 90th anniversary! Proceeds support The Women’s Park and the Girls Empowerment and Mentoring (G.E.M.) Summer Arts Program.
