Volunteers invited to participate in Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day on April 13
Volunteers are invited to come do the "shore" thing and participate in the largest shoreline cleanup in South Florida: the annual Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day. Now in its 37th year, Baynanza will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2019. from 9 a.m. to noon at more than 20 locations along the bay's shoreline.
Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day has become virtually synonymous with the annual Baynanza celebration, which includes more than 25 similar cleanup activities over five weeks throughout March and April. The Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day is an important community-wide effort aimed at restoring the health of the Bay, which is one of the most important ecological systems in South Florida. At last year's Baynanza event, more than 4,600 volunteers successfully removed more than 32 tons of marine debris and garbage. Of these, three tons were recycled.
Volunteers will receive free commemorative t-shirts while supplies last and may earn community service hours in exchange for their participation.
Online registration will be available from Monday, Jan. 14 through Friday, March 15.
The Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, Division of Environmental Resources Management, organizes this event with support from sponsors and other County agencies.
