Palmetto Bay partners with Deering Estate to hold inaugural Memorial Day Celebration

MIAMI ( May 02, 2019 )

The Village of Palmetto Bay is teaming with Deering Estate on Saturday, May 25th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to honor, remember and celebrate those who gave their lives for our freedom.

This is the inaugural year for the "Palmetto Bay at Deering Memorial Day Celebration." Through a partnership agreement between the Village and Deering Estate, Palmetto Bay residents, veterans and active duty military personnel will be able to enjoy the festivities at the historic venue free of charge. Deering Estate Foundation Members will also receive free admission. Please note that Palmetto Bay residents will be required to show proof of residency.

Reduced admission for all other guests, ages 4 and older, is $7. Proceeds benefit the Deering Estate Foundation, supporting Community, Conservation and Culture.

The day will feature a military parade, scheduled at 1:00 p.m., including the St. Andrews Pipe and Drums and the Miami Palmetto Senior High School Marching Band. There will also be other performances by local talent, a DJ, kids' activities, Museum Tours and Nature Preserve Tours. Special "On the Bay" Adventures will be available for purchase the day of the event. The featured act of the afternoon is the Hal Roland Jazz Band. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn blankets and chairs.

"Miami-Dade County is proud to be home to more than 50,000 military veterans and families and more than 300 reside in our beautiful Village of Palmetto Bay," said Mayor Karyn Cunningham. "What better way to celebrate and remember those who have served our country than a good old-fashioned parade, picnic and jazz concert at Deering Estate - one of our County gems right here in Palmetto Bay. I hope all our residents come out and learn more about Deering and celebrate the Memorial Day weekend with us!"
