PortMiami working with cruise and cargo partners, as well as local, state and federal agencies, on preventative measures regarding COVID-19

MIAMI ( March 04, 2020 )

The Office of the Mayor, in conjunction with state and federal agencies, is coordinating all coronavirus (COVID-19) efforts throughout Miami-Dade County.

At PortMiami it is business as usual, but with the preparations and plans in place ahead of any communicable diseases including coronavirus. We’re currently working with our cruise and cargo partners on preventative measures to safeguard our team, partners, crew members, passengers, and the Miami-Dade community. In addition to these preventative measures, all ships and terminals are being thoroughly sanitized as a precautionary measure. Additionally, each individual cruise line has instituted protocols and screening procedures for guests and crew members.  We also encourage cruise passengers to contact the cruise lines for any changes in itineraries or protocols. For the latest information from the Cruise Lines International Association visit: www.cruising.org.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has established protocols for the detection of the virus and will review them on a case-by-case basis. The USCG Captain of the Port evaluates each case with the CDC, and in partnership with CBP, will take the appropriate action as needed. PortMiami will continue to consult with the USCG, CBP, Florida Department of Health, and the CDC on any additional measures required.
