Miami-Dade County Parks extends exercise options for older adults

MIAMI ( June 18, 2020 )

Miami-Dade County Parks’ Health and Fitness Division, together with the Mayor’s Initiative on Aging and in partnership with the County of San Diego’s Division on Aging and Independence Services, offers Miami-Dade residents the option of exercising from home by watching “Feeling Fit Club.” The fitness program designed for older adults of all abilities, can be viewed on Miami-Dade TV via cable television or online.

Episodes air at 7 a.m., Monday through Friday, on Cable Channel 76, on Atlantic Broadband, Comcast and Xfinity; and Channel 99 on AT&T U-verse. Viewers can also set your DVRs to record the episodes, to exercise at a later time. Those without Cable TV subscriptions, can watch the episodes on a computer or any digital device on YouTube at Miami-Dade TV Live.

The exercises focus on how to gain better balance, enhanced flexibility and greater muscle strength to improve quality of life, and can be adapted for standing or sitting. They are comprised of five one-hour episodes, which escalate in difficulty and are repeated weekly.

The home-based program provides another great fitness option for adults in our community who may not have the opportunity to visit a Miami-Dade County Park offering Active Older Adult programs, due to transportation issues, work schedules or the current coronavirus pandemic.

Participants are advised to consult a physician before starting this or any exercise program. If any physical discomfort is felt during exercise, a medical expert should be consulted.
