River of Grass Greenway
The River of Grass Greenway was awarded $1 million to plan and develop a non-motorized transportation and recreation corridor across the Everglades. The pathway will connect this unique natural resource with the densely populated east and west coasts of southern Florida, including Collier and Miami-Dade counties. The River of Grass Greenway will provide multiple-use recreational access to a variety of public lands, including Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve.
Focus on Education, Sustainability, and Involvement
The Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) was awarded $1,000,000 to pursue a feasibility study and master plan for the River of Grass Greenway (ROGG) to determine environmental constraints, practicability and a cohesive design for a non-motorized transportation and recreation corridor across the everglades. The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Space (MDPROS) department is managing this project at RTCA’s request through a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service based on its extensive experience with greenways and trail planning.
The proposed pathway will connect this unique natural resource with the densely populated east and west counties of southern Florida, including Miami-Dade and Collier Counties. The ROGG will provide multipurpose recreational access to a variety of public lands, including Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve.
