PortMiami's Deep Dredge project is moving forward and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun the solicitations to put the Deep Dredge project out for bid. This is the final step prior to awarding a contract for deepening PortMiami’s channels to minus 50/52 feet.  The dredging is expected to be completed in 2015 in time for the opening of the expanded Panama Canal. PortMiami will be the only U.S. port south of Norfolk, Virginia at the minus 50-foot depth and able to accommodate the new generation of larger cargo container ships.
