New Ferry Service
To Bimini
The Baleària Bahamas Express and the Capo Group launched a new ferry service from PortMiami linking Miami and Bimini with roundtrip service three days a week. The high-speed vessel, Maverick, offers roundtrip crossings between Miami and Bimini on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The once-daily ferry service departs PortMiami at 9 a.m. and Bimini at 5 p.m.

Global Cargo Expo
Coming This Fall
PortMiami will host one of the largest and most important international cargo conferences when the Terminal Operations Exhibition – Container Supply Chain Americas Conference comes to Miami October 1-3. The expo is the premier global meeting place for ports, logistics providers, terminals, shipping lines, and shippers. Hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors from around the globe are expected at the three day event.

Perishables Event
PortMiami officials traveled to Berlin earlier this month promoting PortMiami's growing trade in perishable products. Port director Bill Johnson attended Fruit Logistica 2013, the world's leading trade fair for the fresh fruit and vegetable import/export trade. The Port has targeted perishables for continued growth, an effort recently bolstered by their designation as a U.S. Customs Center of Excellence and Expertise for Agriculture and Prepared Products.

Full Speed Ahead PortMiami Poised for New Growth
PortMiami director Bill Johnson joined Miami International Airport director José Abreu to address more than 1,000 business and community leaders at the annual State of the Ports Briefing on February 13. Johnson told the audience Adobe Acrobat Logo that at PortMiami it's ''Full Speed Ahead'' for continued growth including the completion of more than $2 billion in capital improvements and continued expansion of the cruise fleet.

PortMiami's Economic Impact Growing
WelderA new Economic Impact Study reports that PortMiami contributed $27 billion last year to the local and state economies—up 50 percent from five years ago. According to the study by national economic consultants Martin Associates, the seaport supports 207,000 jobs, over 25,000 more than just five years ago.

Tunnel Construction Now at Halfway Mark
Tunnel means jobsWith Harriet, the tunnel boring machine, now digging its way back from the Port to the mainland, tunnel construction is more than 50 percent complete with an on-time finish date scheduled for the spring of 2014. To date, the project has hired 6,728 workers and contractors providing a significant boost to the local economy.

PortMiami Wins Customs Designation
collagePortMiami has been designated the Center of Excellence and Expertise for Agriculture and Prepared Products by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. There are only 10 such centers in the U.S., providing one-stop processing of various products. The Customs designation helps solidify PortMiami’s role as a gateway for fruits, vegetables and other perishables and prepared goods imported from around the world.

Cruise Shipping Miami 2013
Cruise ships in dockPortMiami will join several hundred exhibitors from around the world at this year's Cruise Shipping Miami Conference being held at the Miami Beach Convention Center March 11-14. The mega-event brings together buyers, suppliers and other important players in the cruising world for a week of networking, education and sourcing. To maximize our ''Miami'' exposure, the Port has partnered with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Miami International Airport in one large exhibit space. Please come visit us at Booth #809.

Employee and Bill at holiday luncheon Seaport Construction Inspection Specialist Eduardo Abarca has been named PortMiami’s Employee of the Year for 2012. Eduardo joined the Port in 2007 and has worked on numerous Port projects including transforming Shed B into a makeshift terminal in order to accommodate a seventh vessel on the North Wharf, a feat that had never before been accomplished. Thank you, Eduardo, for your contributions to the Port's capital improvement program.
