Miami Dade County Community Action and Human Services Celebrates National Weatherization Day 2013
(MIAMI, November 25, 2013) - Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) celebrated National Weatherization Day 2013 at the home of Eugenie Moreau Miami-Dade county resident. The nationwide celebration highlights one of the nation’s core programs for delivering energy-efficiency services to low-income households. Miami-Dade County District 2 Commissioner, Jean Monestime, and Joyce M. Postell, District Director, Office of U.S. Representative, Frederica S. Wilson attended the event in support of the county program that utilizes funds received from the U.S. Department of Energy (DEO), to install energy efficient measures in homes. Community sponsors Lowe’s, Valspar Paint, RicMon Group LLC, and Pro Paint and Landscaping collaborated with CAHSD, Energy Division to enhance the scope of work at Ms. Moreau’s home. In addition, members of the Greater Miami Service Corp participated by working together to paint the entire exterior of the home as a service of the Home Beatification program.
“This is important work being done to save money for low-income homeowners by upgrading their homes. It means that these families are paying lower energy bills every month, which translates into savings that can be applied to basic needs such as groceries and medicine. Empowering county residents is what we do; being able to assist county residents like Ms. Moreau is why the Home Assistance programs are a community success”, said Alberto Parjus, Assistant Director, Miami Dade County Community Action and Human Services.
