Respite for Elders Living in Everyday Families Volunteer Recognition Taking Place on December 12

(MIAMI, December 11, 2013) - Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department’s Elderly and Disability Services Division will be recognizing the Respite for Elders Living in Everyday Families volunteers on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza.

Sponsored by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, the Relief Program offers in-home respite that is an expansion of respite currently available through other programs, including evening and weekend respite. The purpose of this program is to increase the ability of a family unit to continue to care for a homebound elderly individual by providing in-home respite beyond the basic provisions of current public programs.

The Department thanks the 39 volunteers who from January through October 2013 have provided 8,003 hours of service to the frail homebound elders of Miami-Dade County.
