Community Action and Human Services Department awards over 40 scholarships at annual banquet

(MIAMI, July 9, 2014) Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) presented scholarships to over 40 college and college-bound students at the Community Advisory Committees’ 6th Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.  Dr. William Zubkoff, Chairman of the Community Action Board, served as the Master of Ceremony for the evening, while Bill Diggs, President of The Mourning Family Foundation, delivered an empowering keynote speech to the young honorees in attendance.

The scholarship initiative was developed to provide financial support for youth from impoverished communities throughout Miami-Dade County to afford them the opportunity to obtain their educational goals.  An annual scholarship consisting of Community Service Block Grant funds and funds raised by Community Advisory Committees (CACs) is competitively granted to individuals ages 16-25 who are planning to begin or continue their college education in the Fall.  This year, a total of $62,500 was raised to award over 40 scholarships.
