Miami-Dade County's Neighborhood Partnership, Responsibility, Involvement, Duty and Enforcement (P.R.I.D.E.) Program focuses on both the soul and appearance of our neighborhoods. A beautiful neighborhood is more likely to be the home of a united and healthy community - just as strong communities are more prone to create and sustain neighborhoods that are aesthetically pleasing and welcoming in appearance.
The Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E. Program operates year-round. However, every year in April, a week is proclaimed P.R.I.D.E. Week and a series of events dedicated to "cleaning up" - both literally and metaphorically - our neighborhoods are implemented. The Program is designed to instill a sense of pride among the citizens of Miami-Dade County, to bring our communities together, and to empower our residents to become involved in the care and beautification of their neighborhoods.
In addition to community projects, the Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E. Program also sponsors a poster contest that is held for all Miami-Dade Public Schools. Read below to learn more about the poster contest. In October 2007, the Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E. Program implemented an essay contest for Miami-Dade Public School high school seniors. Team Metro realizes that we cannot make a difference in our communities without our neighborhood partners. In 2001, Team Metro introduced the “Making a Difference Award,” which recognizes individuals who have made a positive impact in their neighborhoods. During the P.R.I.D.E. Week Kick-Off and Closing events, eight community leaders are acknowledged yearly through the presentation of this award.
Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E. Poster Contest
For the past several years, Team Metro has organized a poster contest for 4th and 5th grade Miami-Dade Public School students. In October 2007, the contest will be expanded to include another tier of the poster contest for 7th and 8th grade middle school students. Posters entries should illustrate a student’s view of neighborhood care, maintenance, and beautification. Interested students should contact their school’s art teacher or your Team Metro regional office. Find out which regional office serves your area, click here.
