Awards and Recognition

2012

National Association of Counties recognized Miami-Dade County Information Technology Department innovations with 2012 NACO Award descriptions for:

  • Voter Viewer is a GIS application, deployed locally over the county’s intranet that allows all Elections staff to view map based voter locations, streets, addresses, electoral boundaries and VRS data.
  • GIS Oblique Imagery, aerial photography that has been captured at a 30-45 degree angle, has simplified functions and triggered the redesign of business processes resulting in cost-savings, more complete analysis and a better quality of services.
  • Employee Locator is a GIS application used to assist County officials in directing resources and planning countywide emergency activations by displaying the geographic location of each County employee’s home on a map with photos, personal contact information, work profiles and employee’s work location and associated division.
  • IDW Dashboard provides inmate data at a-glance such as; the in-facilities inmate population, outside facilities inmate population, booked count for the previous day, released count for the previous day and the total number of inmates supervised with drill-down detailed inmate report listing.
  • Automated Misdemeanor Arraignment Hearing Setting provides a new functionality to the Criminal Justice Information System involving the automatic setting of arraignment court hearings for misdemeanor type cases.

Miami-Dade County’s Information Technology Department Celebrates GIS's 25th Year Winning Nationally Recognized Awards And Grants.

2011

In 2011, our technology department won five NACO awards for programs supporting a wide range of County services.

Animal Service Routing automated and improved the efficiency of an Animal Services Routing System that handles more than 37,000 annual citizen requests.

Fire Hydrant Maintenance is a web-based GIS system providing firefighters a more effective tool to serve the fire hydrants.

Interactive Control and Reporting to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DMV) of Traffic Violation Data is a system designed to comply with the State of Florida electronic reporting requirements for driver citations within our jurisdiction.

Power IT Down is a centralized system saving costs and energy by automatically powering down County computers at the end of the work day.

Virtual Desktop Deployment is an initiative that is reducing costs and improving customer service by enhancing our ability to conduct business from remote locations.

2010

The Information Technology Department (formerly Enterprise Technology Services Department (ETSD), is very proud to announce it has received the prestigious National Association of County's Best in Category award Adobe Reader of IBM Cognos 8 on System z/Linux, which offers the technology tools for business intelligence available to all departments within Miami-Dade County. Business intelligence is the technology and practice of applying information to make decisions. This is the first time Miami-Dade County has won a Best in Category award!

In addition to Cognos ETSD has won five additional recognition awards. The winning projects are:

  • Constituent Identity Synchronization provides a seamless integrated customer service experience on the County's web portal
  • e-Notify System enables judicial court notifications, subpoenas and documented response acknowledgements to be sent via the Internet
  • ETSD Succession Planning System identifies employee skill sets and professional development for future department staffing needs
  • GIS Layer Verification Process provides control checks of GIS production layer updates
  • Web Address Search enables customers to enter an address on the web in order to retrieve desired location information from GIS

2009

 Computer World 100 Best Places to work in IT 2009

The Enterprise Technology Services Department (ETSD) has been selected as one of the top 100 workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals announced by IDG's Computerworld, the "Voice of IT Management." This honor is part of the weekly IT publication's 16th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey and is available online at www.computerworld.com/2009bestplaces.

  Miami-Dade County's Enterprise Technology Services Department wins NACo awards
The GIS Division was awarded NaCO Achievement Awards in the Information Technology category for the Master Address Repository Address System (MARS) and the Land Information Viewer website. MARS created a countywide centralized address system providing county departments and residents with the benefits of standardized and accurate addresses for their business needs. The Address Search website was created so users could interactively access the addressing information contained in MARS. The Land Information Viewer website enables county departments involved in the land development process to increase their effectiveness by sharing their GIS data. The Viewer contains 81 spatial layers from 12 county departments, including Water and Sewer, Planning and Zoning, Fire, Building, Police, DERM, Property Appraiser, Public Works, Capital Improvements and Transit.
  Miami-Dade County's Enterprise Technology Services Department wins Public Technology Institute (PTI) awards
The GIS Division was awarded a PTI Significant Achievement Award in the GIS category for the Master Address Repository System (MARS), which created a countywide centralized address system to standardize and improve the accuracy of county addresses. Honorable Mentions in the GIS category were awarded for the Land Information Viewer and the Sexual Offender/Predator Residence Search websites. The Land Information Viewer allows county departments involved in the land development process to share their GIS data, while the Sexual Offender/Predator Residence Search is used by the Miami-Dade Police Department to verify that released sexual offenders and predators convicted of sexual crimes against children 16 years of age or younger do not reside within 2,500 feet of any school or daycare, as stipulated by county ordinance.

Best 100 Places to Work

Miami-Dade County One of Top U.S. Digital Counties
All counties in the United States were invited to participate in the 2006 Digital Counties Survey. County officials responded to questions that included more than 100 measurements and data points about online service delivery, infrastructure, architecture and governance models. In 2006 Miami-Dade continued it’s top ten ranking, which it also earned in 2005.
Miami-Dade Chosen Among the Best 100 Places to Work in Information Technology
Computer World magazine has rated Miami-Dade County among the best 100 places to work in the Information Technology (IT) field. The honor is part of the weekly publication’s 13th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey published in Computerworld.

Miami-Dade Communicators Honored by the National Association of County Information Officers  
The Miami-Dade Enterprise Technology Services Department, Online Division earned a “Best of Class” for communications on the web portal, the highest NACIO award given during the competition.  The Miami-Dade Communications, Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation and Miami-Dade Water and Sewer departments respectively earned superior awards for their “School Tour Program”, “All you need to know” and Miami-Dade Parks 75th Anniversary Celebration.”

Miami-Dade County receives Special Achievement in GIS from ESRI
Miami-Dade County was honored at the 25th annual ESRI International User Conference for its outstanding use of GIS technology to provide spatial solutions to county departments and residents through desktop and web tools.

2003 Center for Digital Government Award , 2nd Place
Based on a population category of 500,000 or more, Miami-Dade County, Florida, ranks second in utilizing information technology (IT) to deliver high quality service to its customers and citizens, according to the 2003 Digital Counties Survey, a new study conducted jointly by the Center for Digital Government, National Association of Counties (NACo) and Government Technology magazine.

The "Best of Web Award" is awarded by the Center for Digital Government. This is a national research and advisory institute providing government, industry and education leaders with decision support, research and educational resources to help them effectively incorporate new technologies in the 21st century.

ITFlorida presented Miami-Dade County with the Government Technology Leadership Award at the first annual Gala and Technology Forum held in Orlando on July 24th. ITFlorida represents Florida’s diverse information technology community on a statewide basis. The award recognized Miami-Dade County for implementing leading technologies that have improved overall service to the community while streamlining processes and reducing costs.
  My Neighborhood wins 3rd Place in Digital Government's "Best of the Web" Award
The Center for Digital Government's "Best of the Web" recognizes the most innovative and user-friendly state and local government portals and websites.
  Miami-Dade County wins IT Florida Technology Forum's Government Technology Leadership Award
The My Neighborhood and My Home websites were among the several Miami-Dade County programs recognized for excellence and innovation in the county's commitment to its mission, service to the public and cost effectiveness.

  The Leadership Award was given to Miami-Dade County for several of the County's inventive programs. The award recognizes innovative technology initiatives for their contributions to a state or local government agency's mission accomplishment, service to the public, and cost effectiveness.
