Miami-Dade County District 11 Commissioner Juan C. Zapata recognizes Miami-Dade County‘s Information Technology Department’s and John A. Ferguson Senior High School mentoring program


(MIAMI, March 7, 2013) - Miami-Dade County’s Information Technology Department’s (ITD) Mentoring Program with John A. Ferguson Senior High School was recognized by District 11 Commissioner Juan C. Zapata at the Board of County Commissioners Meeting on March 5, 2013.

Commissioner Juan C. Zapata presented John A. Ferguson Senior High School with a Proclamation for their partnership with the Information Technology Department in a declaring March 5, 2013 ITD Mentoring Program John A. Ferguson Senior High School Day. Dr. Lisa Robertson, School Principal, was there to receive the Proclamation and together presented the twenty-seven students and four Information Technology teachers with a certificate for their participation. “It is a real pleasure to recognize the folks at ITD and the students at John A. Ferguson Senior High School, a beautiful high school in my district that I am very proud of, for this outstanding program and for preparing our youth for the future in the field of technology” said Commissioner Juan C. Zapata.

The Information Technology Department’s Mentoring Program has been in effect for four years and runs for seven months with an average of thirty students per term. The Mentoring Program is based on building a relationship between experienced IT professionals at ITD and students enrolled in the IT Academy at John A. Ferguson Senior High School. The goal is to build a beneficial mentoring relationship providing the students with valuable information that will encourage them to pursue for technology based careers. Areas of technology covered under the program include Networking, Digital Business, Web Design, Geographic Information Systems, Programming, Radio Communications, Security and Virtualization.
