Miami-Dade County Information Technology Department launches new Geographic Information Systems websites for Public Use

(MIAMI, April 1, 2014) - Miami-Dade County’s Information Technology Department (ITD) has launched three new Geographical Information Systems (GIS) websites; a Reef and Buoy Finder, a Community Services page and a Business Tracker. Partners in these efforts include the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, Finance Department, Beacon Council and Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces.

The Reef and Buoy Finder website helps residents and visitors obtain information on artificial reefs and offshore mooring buoys managed by Miami-Dade County. In addition to searching for reefs and buoys by name and viewing their location on a full screen map, users of the website can also see weather information, distances to inlets and underwater photographs of reefs taken and uploaded by divers. Visit the website at http://gisweb.miamidade.gov/artificialreefs/.

The Community Services website is a one-stop-shop for residents and visitors to locate county facilities and services near them. The website includes information for Garbage and Recycling dates, Public School Attendance Boundaries, Emergency Management Evacuation Centers, Nearest Parks, Nearest Libraries and Bookmobiles, and much more. Visit the website at http://gisweb.miamidade.gov/communityservices

Business Tracker comes in two versions, a full screen mapping website and a Windows 8 application available for download through the Windows Store. This application tracks which businesses in Miami-Dade County have opened or closed within a given timeframe and geographic area. Local business tax receipts (formerly known as occupational licenses) are used to determine the status of the businesses. Visit the website at http://gisweb.miamidade.gov/businesstracker.

Two new GIS mobile phone and tablet mapping apps have recently been launched, www.miamidadesites.com, for business site selection, and gisms.miamidade.gov/bike305m, for bike routes and events.
