Special traffic advisory on MIC-Earlington Heights Connector construction

Statnamic Load Test to be conducted on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
On Wednesday, December 9, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., a Statnamic Load Test will be conducted at the construction site of the future elevated Metrorail guideway on approximately NW 41st Street and NW 28th Avenue.  Traffic on State Road 112 westbound near NW 27 Avenue on-ramp will be briefly delayed only while the test is deployed (also known as a rolling block).

As part of the construction activities for Miami-Dade Transit's MIC-Earlington Heights Metrorail extension project, the contractor will be performing foundation load tests at several sites along the project corridor.  During this testing, surrounding businesses could experience noise and slight vibration with a small cloud of smoke contained within the testing site which will dissipate in approximately 30 seconds. The testing will deliver 143 decibels of sound approximately 150 feet from test site (equivalent to a loud thunder).  This testing is done to verify the load-carrying capacity of future foundation sites of the new Metrorail guideway. No interruption of traffic flow and no sidewalk closures are anticipated.  Work activities in this area will be continued after the test without additional disturbances until further advised.  Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

The above information is subject to change if the contractor's schedule is altered due to unforeseen circumstances.  For more information, please refer to the contact name listed above.

The Miami Intermodal Center (MIC)-Earlington Heights Connector is a 2.4-mile elevated Metrorail extension from the existing Earlington Heights Metrorail Station to the MIC next to Miami International Airport. This vital project will provide a reliable Metrorail connection to the airport for the millions of residents, visitors and employees who travel to and from MIA every year. The project also will provide a boost to the local economy by creating jobs and facilitating work-related travel and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
