Broward County resident Audrey Jarrett almost felt like she won the lottery when the Dade-Broward 95 Express commuter bus service began earlier this year. It's helping her save more than $60 on her commuting costs, and between 15 to 20 minutes on her commuting time to her job in Brickell.
But her luck didn't stop there. On Tuesday, July 20, 2010, Jarrett will be presented with a six-month MDT transit pass for winning the Dump the Pump Day raffle, held on June 17, 2010.
Jarrett is thrilled about her win, but the Dade-Broward 95 Express bus service remains the biggest prize in her book.
"I just love it," she said. "A lot of people can get to work on time because you can depend on it. It's also a good way of de-stressing when going to work and when coming home in the evening because you don't have to deal with traffic and other things."
Miami-Dade Transit Director Harpal S. Kapoor said he is pleased that more people like Jarrett are discovering the benefits of using the Dade-Broward 95 Express commuter bus service.
"Once they try our service, they see the difference in their commuting time, fuel savings, and how they can enjoy a stress-free ride, all while on board our new environmentally friendly hybrid buses," Kapoor said.
This was the fifth year people across the country participated in Dump the Pump Day. Locally, Miami-Dade Transit teamed up with Broward County Transit, Palm Tran, South Florida Commuter Services, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail and Florida Department of Transportation to encourage people to use public transportation to save money, help the nation reduce its reliance on oil, and help the environment by reducing the carbon footprint.
