NW 7th Avenue Transit Village Project

    Project Description

Nationwide, transit-oriented development (TOD) is proving to be an increasingly successful means to stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life in urban communities. The proposed 7th Avenue Transit Village features convenient access to public transportation, attractive sites for businesses and affordable housing options. In an area where 30% of the households have been identified as being below the poverty line and 6.9 % are dependent on public
transportation, TOD will yield many benefits.

As a roadway corridor, NW 7th Avenue attracts a large number of commuters and consumers. It provides an alternate and parallel northsouth route to Interstate 95 (I-95). This area is poised to become a major transfer point for travelers diverting from I-95 and other major northsouth arteries.

A transit hub at the intersection of NW 7th Avenue and 62nd Street will create seamless access for commuters to and from the Liberty City area and connectivity between Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, serving several municipalities. Local residents and commuters will be able to use the Park & Ride and Kiss & Ride, or walk to the Transit Village and connect to a variety of transportation services such as Metrobus, neighborhood circulators and taxis.

The new Transit Village is expected to attract retail space, offices and neighborhood services, creating employment opportunities while serving the needs of the community and acting as a catalyst to economic development. The facility would fall within an Empowerment Zone. Businesses located around the village will be able to take advantage of a variety of tax benefits. The County’s Community Workforce Program, which requires the training and hiring of qualified residents of communities where capital improvements are being made, will also ensure that the project contributes to local job creation.

The 7th Avenue Transit Village will feature convenient access to public transportation, attractive sites for businesses and affordable housing options. The transit-oriented development (TOD) is anticipated to create jobs and other economic opportunities, while providing the local community with a better environment and quality of life.
