    Hispanic Heritage Tours

The voyages of Cortés and Pizarro in the 1500s attracted a caravan of Spanish galleons bearing astonishing numbers of conquistadores, priests, and cartographers to the coasts of the Florida peninsula. Today, Hispanics from nearby shores still find their way in great numbers to South Florida. Like their predecessors, they seek to settle and work in a foreign country.

Miami-Dade Transit’s Herencia Hispana (Hispanic Heritage) tours guide participants through the rich history of Hispanics in Miami-Dade County. These free tours are offered in English and Spanish aboard air-conditioned buses each Saturday in October, Hispanic Heritage Month. Specially trained Miami-Dade Transit employees narrate the tours.

Herencia Hispana tours leave the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, 111 NW First Street in downtown Miami, and last approximately three and a half hours. Departures are at 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Reservations are required to take part in this historical experience. Call 786-469-5558, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please state your language  preference (English or Spanish) when making reservations.

Click historical sites for a list of sites visited on the tour.
