Improvement Projects
Miami-Dade Transit continues to initiate improvement projects that sustain or create jobs and invest in public transportation, environmental preservation and infrastructure. The following are examples of key MDT projects:
Joint Development Projects
The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners recognized the importance of joint development as early as 1978, six years before the opening of Metrorail. In order to promote joint development, the Commission adopted Ordinance # 78-74 (codified as Chapter 33C of the County Code) entitled “Fixed-Guideway Rapid Transit System – Development Zone.”
Miami International Airport (MIA) Metrorail Station and Orange Line Service
On July 28, 2012, Miami-Dade Transit inaugurated the MIA Metrorail station and began Orange Line service.
Future Park & Ride Sites
Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) continues to plan and construct additional park and ride facilities designed to address parking demand from transit patrons throughout Miami-Dade County.
System Projects
System projects help to improve the quality of our transportation service.
Signage at Metrorail Stations
Since the opening of the Miami International Airport Metrorail Station in July 2012, the Metrorail system now has two rail lines: the Green and Orange Lines.
