    Reduced Fares

    Metromover is free for all. Most people with disabilities, Medicare recipients, preschoolers, and students in grades 1-12 can ride Metrobus and Metrorail at a reduced fare. Proper permits and IDs are required at all times. 

    All senior citizens 65 years and older and Social Security beneficiaries who are residents of Miami-Dade County ride free on transit with the Golden Passport.

    Veterans earning $22,000 or less annually ride free with the Patriot Passport. The following groups can ride transit at the reduced fare.

    How to Get Reduced Fare Permits
    Apply for the Golden Passport, the free reduced-fare permit, preschooler permit, and/or buy your rail reduced-fare permits at any Transit Service Center, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. People with disabilities must always provide a doctor's letter indicating the type of disability and whether that disability is permanent. (Note: See Golden Passport for other locations.)
     

    Senior Citizens and People with Disabilities
    Metrobus riders with a Medicare (not Medicaid) card must show it to the bus operator to ride at the reduced fare. Qualified disabled riders without a Medicare card may apply for a free reduced-fare permit to ride the bus at the reduced fare and must must always provide a doctor's letter indicating the type of disability and whether that disability is permanent. Metromover is free for everyone.
      
    Metrorail riders must use the rail reduced-fare permit. Buy six monthly permits for 65 cents each (good for six consecutive months). People with disabilities must always provide a doctor's letter indicating the type of disability and whether that disability is permanent. 
      
    Or buy the $37.50 Discount Metropass by showing your Medicare card. Riders using the discount pass do not need to buy the rail reduced-fare permit. However, always carry a valid ID and proof of eligibility to ride at the reduced fare.

    Medicare Recipients
    To ride at the reduced fare on Metrobus, show your Medicare card or bus reduced-fare permit to the bus operator and deposit the 75-cent reduced fare. Apply for the free bus reduced-fare permit at any Transit Service Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
      
    To ride at the reduced fare on Metrorail, you must use a 65-cent rail permit, sold six at a time at any Transit Service Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Insert your rail reduced-fare permit, arrows forward, into the front slot of the fare turnstile, and then deposit the 75-cent reduced fare.
      
    No residency is required for those showing a Medicare card.

    S tudents
    To ride Metrobus at the reduced fare, Miami-Dade County students in grades 7-12 must use a Metrobus student permit issued at individual schools by Miami-Dade County school officials. Students in grades 1-6 do not need a permit to ride Metrobus at the reduced fare.
      
    To ride Metrorail, students must use the rail reduced-fare permit. Metromover is free for everyone. Monthly permits cost 65¢ each and are issued six at a time at any Transit Service Center . Students should apply in person with a school ID, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

    Miami-Dade students in grades 1-12 can also ride transit with the $37.50 Discount Metropass. When using the discount pass, no rail reduced-fare permit is needed. However, students must always carry a valid ID.

    P reschoolers
    Preschoolers less than 42 inches tall can ride Metrobus and Metrorail free at all times with an accompanying adult. Metromover is free for everyone. Preschoolers taller than 42 inches ride transit free with a preschooler permit. Apply for this permit at any Transit Service Center , Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
