Carpooling Opens Up Parking Spaces at the Dadeland North Metrorail Station

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Miami-Dade Transit and South Florida Commuter Services are kicking off a six-month pilot program whereby patrons who carpool to the Dadeland North Metrorail station can enjoy preferential parking.
In an effort to better utilize available parking spaces at the Dadeland North Metrorail parking garage, Miami-Dade Transit has set aside 10 parking spaces on the second floor of the garage next to the elevators. Starting Monday, March 6, 2006, carpoolers with three or more occupants to a vehicle can park in these spaces. Patrons must display their monthly Metrorail parking permit or pay the $4 daily parking fee.

This innovative program will impact commuters in three significant ways:

  • It will help drivers save on commuting costs
  • It will help everyone conserve energy
  • And it will allow Miami-Dade County to open up additional parking spaces in one of the most congested garages in the Metrorail system – without having to spend capital funds for more spaces

Additional spaces and stations may be added to the program based on results.

Anyone needing assistance in finding other carpoolers can call South Florida Commuter Services at 1-800-234-RIDE to receive a list of potential carpoolers within their neighborhoods.

This initiative was spearheaded by County Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez, who chairs the Board of County Commissioner’s Regional Transportation Committee.
