Team Transit Competes in the 2006 Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
For the first time, Miami-Dade Transit’s Team Transit will participate in the 2006 Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival.

The annual boat race will take place March 18-19, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Brickell Key Island in downtown Miami.

“Miami-Dade Transit is looking forward to participating in such a festive event. We are quite proficient at surface transit; now let’s see if we can master waterborne transit. Come out and support Team Transit in the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat competition,” said MDT Director Roosevelt Bradley.

Team Transit participation in the boat race is part of the department’s Health and Wellness program. In July 2004, MDT launched the Health and Wellness program to boost work performance and encourage a healthy lifestyle among its employees.

Miami-Dade Transit is one of two Miami-Dade County departments participating in the boat race this year.

The boat race aims to promote the sport by sharing this dramatic aspect of Asian culture with the greater Miami community. It combines traditional with modern day teamwork, enthusiasm, and strategy. Proceeds from the festival will go towards the promotion of dragon boat racing in Miami and toward charitable activities. It also encourages people to increase their physical activities, while enjoying the outdoors.
