(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Transit will host two public meetings for the MIC/Earlington Heights Metrorail Connector to Miami International Airport (MIA). The first of the two scheduled sessions will take place 7p.m.-9p.m., Monday, May 15, 2006 at the Embassy Suites Hotel - Miami International Airport, 3974 NW South River Drive , Miami. The second session will take place on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the Sheila Winitzer Central Administration Building, 3300 NW 32nd Avenue, Miami from 4p.m.-6p.m. There will be a 30-minute open house followed by project presenters.
The MIC/Earlington Heights Corridor is a 2.4 mile Metrorail extension from the existing Earlington Heights station to the Miami Intermodal Center, with connection to Miami International Airport (MIA). This project includes a station at the Miami Intermodal Center which will provide locals and visitors a central transfer point to different modes of transportation including: Metrobus, Metrorail, Tri-Rail, Amtrak, as well as direct rail access to MIA. When completed, the connector will link Metrorail to MIA, one of the County's largest economic engines, joining a list of major U.S. cities with rapid transit/Airport connections.
