Miami-Dade Transit to Receive Funding For Metrorail Expansion

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Officials at Miami-Dade Transit commend the efforts of Florida Senators and Congressmen that culminated in the inclusion of $2 million in the Senate Appropriations bill of the Fiscal Year 2007 and $1 million in the House bill.  The money is earmarked for the "Orange Line" Metrorail expansion that will run from the Broward County line south and west to the Florida Turnpike and the FIU South Campus.

"The Orange Line is critical to alleviating traffic congestion in Miami-Dade County", said Transit Director Roosevelt Bradley.  "Thanks to the efforts of Federal legislators we are one step closer to accomplishing this major project", he added.

Both Senate and Congressional offices have been working with Miami-Dade County officials on making the Orange Line a priority.  This funding demonstrates support and commitment for Miami-Dade Transit projects in both chambers and on both sides of the aisle.

"I'm glad we could help with this important project", said Senator Bill Nelson.  "This $2 million will help move the expansion of Metrorail forward and increase the public transportation options available to Miami-Dade citizens".

"Working to help relieve the frustrating transit problems in Miami is a top priority for me", said Congressman Mario Diaz Balart.  "I am pleased to have secured $1 million in the House transportation spending bill for Miami-Dade County and will continue to work for Miami transit in the final bill".

Miami-Dade County and Transit officials have visited Washington D.C. numerous times to gain support for the funding which will be used for design and engineering.
