Metrorail Extension Public Meetings

Let Us Know What You Think

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Miami-Dade Transit invites community residents, adjacent to the proposed East-West Transit Corridor, to attend public corridor meetings for the purpose of selecting a locally preferred route alternative. The East-West Corridor proposed to connect the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) at Miami International University with Florida International University (FIU), University Park.

The upcoming three public corridor meetings will be held: Tuesday, September 19, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Sheraton Miami Mart, 711 NW 72nd Avenue; Wednesday, September 20, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Florida International University, Graham Conference Center, 11200 SW 8th Street and Thursday, September 21, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at St. Dominic Parish Hall, 5849 NW 7th Street.

Miami-Dade Transit has been conducting public meetings and workshops in the neighboring East-West communities since June 2006. During this process, the transit study team has presented alternatives and alignments for the corridor, as part of the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. Valuable community input has been received on many aspects of the project, including the alignment, the station location options, and how these stations might best be integrated into the nearby neighborhoods.

The next series of public corridor meetings will present the outcome of that participation. They also offer another opportunity for the community to express their comments and concerns. At this time Miami-Dade Transit will present and seek comments on a new alignment option which will extend from the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) to the entrance of Florida International University along 107th Avenue. Residents are welcome to attend the meeting location most convenient to them. The public’s input is essential to the success of the East-West Transit Corridor Study.

For further information or assistance, interested persons should contact Michelle Simmons, Miami-Dade Transit Public Involvement Coordinator, at 305-375-4625 or by Email: [email protected].

Auxiliary aids or services will be provided upon request with at least five (5) days notice prior to the meeting date.  If hearing impaired, telephone the Florida Relay Service Numbers (800)855-8771 (TDD) or (800)955-8770 (voice) for assistance.
