Miami-Dade Transit wants to encourage those attending the New Year festivities at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami to take transit. To make it even more convenient to use transit, service hours are being extended and free parking at all Metrorail stations will be available to customers riding Metrorail.
Beginning Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, Metrorail will provide continuous service through Friday, Jan.1, 2010. Trains will run every 15 minutes until 2 a.m. and every 30 minutes into Jan.1. Metromover also will provide continuous service between Dec. 31 and Jan.1.
Parking at Metrorail stations will be free after 3 p.m. on Dec. 31, and all day on Jan. 1.
To avoid long lines on the return trip, transit riders are encouraged to load at least $4 on an EASY Card or EASY Ticket at the beginning of their trip. Riders are reminded that Dec. 31 daily passes expire at 2 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Tri-Rail customers are reminded that the last Tri-Rail train will depart from the Tri-Rail Metrorail station at 1:30 a.m.
In Miami Beach, Metrobus Route 123 (South Beach Local) will provide free bus service from 8 a.m. on Dec. 31, until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
On Jan. 1, MDT services will run on a Sunday schedule. Metrobus routes that normally operate during weekdays only, such as routes 34 (Busway Flyer), 51 (Flagler MAX) and 288 (Kendall KAT), will not run on Friday.
