Miami-Dade Transit extends service for New Year's celebrations in downtown Miami

Miami-Dade Transit wants to make sure your New Year’s travel plans go smoothly

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) is encouraging residents and visitors who are celebrating at Bayfront Park's New Year's Eve featuring Red Bull Soundclash to use transit to get to their destination and back home again.  In order to make it even more convenient, service hours are being extended and additional security will be provided.

Metrorail: Metrorail will operate a regular weekend schedule (every 30 minutes) on Saturday, December 31, 2011 and will continue until Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 2 a.m. when the last northbound and southbound trains will be leaving the Government Center Station. Regular Sunday service will resume at 5 a.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2012, as normally scheduled.   MDT will be running six-car trains to accommodate those passengers attending the Bayfront Park celebration in downtown Miami.  Crowds are expected, so MDT asks patrons to use the full length of the platform and fill all the train cars available.

Metromover: Please note that Metromover service is FREE.  Metromover will operate on a regular weekend schedule and service hours will be extended until 2 a.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2012.

Those who are traveling to downtown Miami from the north are encouraged to exit the Metrorail at Government Center Station and take either the Inner Loop or the Omni Loop to get to Bayfront Park. Taking the Inner Loop, patrons can exit at either of three stations: College/Bayside, First Street or Bayfront. Taking the Omni Loop, patrons can exit at Bayfront, First Street or College/Bayside stations.

It is recommended that those who are traveling from the south exit the Metrorail at the Brickell Station and take the Metromover to Bayfront Park and exit at Bayfront, First Street or the College/Bayside station.

To return home, patrons can board any Metromover trains from Bayfront, First Street or College/Bayside Station to Government Center Metrorail Station and continue to reach their destination.

Transit riders are encouraged to load at least $4 on an EASY Card or EASY Ticket at any Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) at the beginning of their trip. Riders are reminded that a 1-Day Pass is good for one calendar day and that it expires at 2:00 a.m. the following day.
