Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 25, 2012, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff will visit Miami-Dade County to highlight the new federal transit safety authority granted under the transportation bill that President Barack Obama signed into law on July 6, 2012.
Secretary LaHood also will present Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) with a $10 million transit grant as part of Federal Transit Administration’s State of Good Repair Program.
Secretary LaHood and Administrator Rogoff will be joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez; Chairman Joe A. Martinez and Members of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners; and Miami-Dade Transit Director Ysela Llort.
NOTE TO MEDIA: After the press conference with Secretary LaHood and Administrator Rogoff, Miami-Dade Transit will provide media a sneak peak of the new MIA Metrorail station via a guided tour and a train ride from the award-winning structure.
Media also will have the opportunity to speak with various officials and be able to obtain b-roll of the new station before the grand opening ceremony on Saturday, July 28, 2012.
