MDT Teams Up With Its Regional Partners For Dump The Pump Day

Commuters can take the pledge to ride public transportation on Thursday, June 20, 2013 for a chance to win a month of free transit rides

(MIAMI, June 19, 2013) – With gas prices climbing and South Florida’s roadways as clogged as ever, Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) is encouraging drivers to leave their cars at home and  “Dump the Pump” tomorrow.

MDT is partnering with Broward County Transit, Palm Tran, South Florida Commuter Services, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail and the Florida Department of Transportation to promote transit’s benefits on the eighth annual National Dump the Pump Day.

A 1-Month Regional Pass, good for a calendar month of seamless travel between Tri-Rail and MDT, will be given away. South Florida commuters can enter the drawing by visiting www.1800234RIDE.com and pledging to use transit instead of their cars on Thursday, June 20.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), National Dump the Pump Day was started in June 2006, when gas prices were $3 per gallon, to emphasize the economic benefits of using public transportation.

Trip planning for Dump the Pump day is available at www.miamidade.gov/transit or by calling 3-1-1.
