Taking Transit to the Race for the Cure?

Event to take place Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Bayfront Park


(Miami, October 17, 2013) – Miami-Dade Transit is the most convenient and cost-effective way to get to the Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure’ event taking place at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami the morning of Saturday, October 19, 2013.

To get to Bayfront Park, ride Metrorail to the Government Center Station, then transfer to Metromover’s Inner Loop. Exit at the Bayfront Park Metromover station. Patrons can also transfer to Metromover from the Brickell Metrorail station. From the Brickell Metromover station, take the northbound Metromover train to Bayfront Park station.

Metromover is free for all patrons. The Metrorail system will be providing regular weekend service. Metrorail stations located between Dadeland South and Earlington Heights, which are served by both the Orange and Green lines, will have service every 15 minutes. Metrorail stations located north of Earlington Heights will have Metrorail service every 30 minutes. 

For those race goers who did not pre-purchase a round trip on an EASY Ticket along with their Race Packet, taking Metrorail will cost $2.25 per trip ($4.50 round trip). They are encouraged to pre-purchase an EASY Card or EASY Ticket and load it with $4.50 before the event on Saturday to avoid crowds and unnecessary waiting in line. EASY Cards and EASY Tickets can be purchased at the following locations:

  • Ticket Vending Machine, located at all Metrorail stations, the Golden Glades Park & Ride and the Omni Bus Terminal
  • EASY Card Retail sales outlets – List available at: www.miamidade.gov/transit/easy-card-sales-outlets.asp
  • Transit Service Centers:
    • Government Center Metrorail Station - 111 NW First Street – Second Level

Open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Overtown Transit Village - 701 NW First Court – Suite 121

Open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For those race goers who did not pre-purchase a Metrorail station parking pass along with their Race Packet, parking is available for $4.50 a day at the Metrorail station TVM.  

Those who take transit in the downtowm Miami area on Saturday mornings should be prepared to experience route detours from 6 am to 11 am on the following Metrobus routes: 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 21, 24, 77, 120, 207, 208, B, C and S.
