Miami-Dade Transit Safety Tips During High Winds

(MIAMI, March 6, 2014) – Strong winds are expected later today, and during this time, Miami-Dade Transit is encouraging patrons to keep in mind the following safety tips while waiting for a Metrorail or Metromover train:

  • Avoid standing at the edge of the platform. Stand at the center of platform.
  • For the safety of patrons, security officers or transit personnel may hold patrons on the lower level of a station if wind gusts are too strong. Patrons are asked to give security officers and transit personnel their full cooperation.

Patrons are also encouraged to register to receive Rider Alerts to be kept abreast of the latest transit updates. If service needs to be temporarily suspended due to weather conditions, MDT will send out Rider Alerts, as well as inform its riders through its social media platforms (Facebook and Tweeter), as well as MDT’s websites and apps.

For more information, transit riders also can call 305-891-3131, which is part of the County’s 3-1-1 Answer Center. Specialists, who respond to calls in English, Spanish and Creole, are available weekdays, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. TTY users can call 305-499-8971.

Transit users are also encouraged to visit www.miamidade.gov/transit for information, or to sign up for Rider Alerts.
