Miami-Dade Transit provides modified Bus Route A service while Venetian Causeway weight restrictions are in place

(MIAMI, April 15, 2014) – Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) is providing modified bus Route A service along most of the Venetian Causeway, while weight restrictions remain in effect on the Causeway.

MDT is using a small bus to continue providing service that had to be temporarily suspended on Friday, April 11, 2014, due to newly implemented weight restrictions. The weight restrictions affected Route A and a portion of the Route South Beach Local.

Route A (101) patrons can board at the regular bus stops located along the Venetian Causeway, between N Venetian Way and NE 12th Place in San Marco Island, on the western end of the modified route, and Meridian Avenue and 17th Street, on the eastern end of the route.

Due to a 5-ton weight limit on the West Venetian Bascule Bridge, the small bus will not be able to travel on the West Venetian Bascule Bridge to go to and from the Omni Bus Terminal.

A map of the modified Route A is attached.

Route A’s modified service will start tomorrow, Wednesday, April 16, 2014. The service will be provided between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the mornings, and between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the evenings. Bus service frequency will be approximately every 30 minutes.

Bus stops for Route South Beach Local (123) in Belle Isle have been temporarily relocated, until further notice, to the east entrance of the Venetian Causeway, near Purdy Avenue and Dade Boulevard. The schedule for the Route South Beach Local remains the same.

For additional information, the public can call 305-891-3131, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. TTY users should call 305-499-8971. Information is also available in Miami-Dade Transit’s website at www.miamidade.gov/transit.
