The Task Force holds monthly public meetings where members discuss pertinent revitalization issues in Miami-Dade County and implement ways to rectify the economic status in the Targeted Urban Areas.
The Task force was created by Mayor Alex Penelas in conjunction with the County Commission in 1997 through ordinance 97-33. The three main purposes of the Task Force are:
-
Help focus Miami Dade County’s economic development funding process;
-
Encourage the formation of public/private partnership(s) working to revitalize the TUA’s through economic development; and
-
Place significant control over the funding of economic development projects in TUA’s in the hands of the community-based County board.
