Reading your water meter
Watch how easy -- and important -- it is to read your water meter so you can monitor your water usage and check for leaks..
Can the grease!
You've cooked a delicious meal, so how do you get rid of any leftover grease? Can it! Doing so prevents clogged pipes and potentially costly repairs. Just pour the grease in a metal can, let it cool, then throw the can in the trash.
Water conservation surcharge
As part of a series of water conservation initiatives in 2009, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved permanent year-round landscape irrigation restrictions to help protect the County's water resources.
In an effort to encourage conservation among customers who consume large quantities of water, the Commissioners also approved the MDC Water Conservation Surcharge. Miami-Dade County applies this surcharge only when the South Florida Water Management District imposes water restrictions by phase, or if the District's permanent Year-Round Landscape Irrigation Rule is in effect.
Currently, the District has placed the Year-Round Landscape Irrigation Rule in effect throughout South Florida. In turn, the MDC Water Conservation Surcharge applies.

Government Cut pipelines to be replaced, relocated
As part of the Port of Miami's dredging project, the Water & Sewer Department (WASD) is relocating two large pipes. A 54-inch wastewater force main and 20-inch water main will be replaced and deepened. The new, deeper location will allow for the dredging of the shipping channel into the Port.
WASD's projects began in August and are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012. The Port's dredging project, which will allow larger ships to access the port, is expected to be completed in August 2014.
Water Supply Certification Program
The Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has implemented a Water Supply Certification Program to assure adequate water supply is available to all County water users as required by policy CIE-5D and WS-2C in the County's Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP) and in accordance with the permitted withdrawal capacity in WASD's 20-year Water Use Permit.
Project to provide a sustainable water resource
Miami-Dade County's High-Level Disinfection (HLD) Project, with a total value of approximately $600 million, will produce highly treated wastewater. It will increase the peak flow capacity of the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant by 27%, as well as reduce the potential of sewer overflows.

The Water & Sewer Department's Customer Service Pebble Award recognizes exceptional employees. Learn more about the program and how you can nominate an employee.
