Customer Frequently Asked Questions

Where does our water come from?

Miami-Dade's sole source for drinking water is ground water from wells. The wells feeding the Hialeah and John E. Preston water treatment plants — which serve most Miami-Dade residents living between the Miami-Dade-Broward County line and SW 8th Street — draw water only from the Biscayne Aquifer. This is also true of the wells feeding the South Dade Water Supply System, which is comprised of five smaller water treatment plants that serve residents south of SW 264th Street in the unincorporated areas of the County.

The Alexander Orr, Jr. water treatment plant, which serves most County residents living between SW 8th Street and SW 264th Street, gets most of its water from the Biscayne Aquifer, supplemented by a smaller amount from the deeper Floridan Aquifer. Water from the two aquifers is blended at the plant prior to treatment.

What are the various ways I can pay my water bill?

Who do I call if I have a question about my bill?

Call our customer relations unit at 305-665-7477 for any information concerning your bill.

Who do I call if I have a leak?

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department is not responsible for leaks that occur on private property. If you are unsure about who would be responsible for a leak, or to report a leak outside of your property or inside the meter box, call the Communications Center at 305-274-WASA (9272).

How can I save on my water bill?

Conserve water and watch your bill go down. High bills are usually caused by excessive consumption and leaking plumbing fixtures such as toilets and faucets. We can all save by being vigilant for leaks, adjusting our behavior and installing water efficient devices. For more information on how you can conserve water, please visit our Water Conservation Portal.

Who do I call about a water main break or a fire hydrant leak?

To report a broken water or sewer pipe or fire hydrant, call WASD's Communication Center as soon as possible at 305-274-WASA (9272). Emergencies may be reported at this number 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
