Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department submits reports related to 20-year Water Use Permit to SFWMD

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) recently submitted three reports related to its 20-Year Water Use Permit (WUP) to the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD).

  • Alternative Water Supply Plan and Reuse Feasibility Plan Annual Progress Report –This report provides an update of WASD’s alternative water supply projects including the new Hialeah Floridan Aquifer Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant; Floridan Aquifer Blending at WASD’s existing Hialeah and Preston water treatment plants; and WASD’s various water reclamation facilities.
  • The Interim Report on the Plan to Address Raw Water Flow Measuring Adjustments – This report was also submitted to SFWMD recently.  The interim report explains how WASD will calibrate the meters on its 98 drinking water production wells, and test them for accuracy.  The meters were installed last year to allow WASD to get a better estimate of how much water is drawn from the Biscayne Aquifer to serve the needs of Miami-Dade County.
  • Water Accounting Report – This report covers calendar year 2007 and it lists amounts of water lost in WASD’s water distribution system due to a number of causes.  By the end of the reporting period, October through December 2007, WASD had achieved 6.11 percent unaccounted-for water, which is considered a good percentage in the water utility industry.  WASD has an aggressive program in place to reduce its unaccounted-for water, which includes one of the most comprehensive leak detection programs in the country.

Copies of all three reports are available online on WASD’s WUP Central website at http://www.miamidade.gov/wasd/wup.asp
