Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department's high level disinfection (HLD) project awarded clarifier contract

Skanska USA Building Inc. awarded the $93 million contract by the Board of County Commissioners

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department continues forward at an accelerated pace on the HLD project. On Tuesday, June 3, 2008, the Board of County Commissioners awarded a $93 million clarifier contract to Skanska USA Building Inc. This award represents one of the 14 construction contracts needed to complete the $628 million HLD project currently under construction at the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The addition of four new clarifiers, each measuring 195 ft. in diameter, and the rehabilitation of the existing six clarifiers is an essential component of the HLD project.  These components will improve the reliability of the HLD process and increase the hydraulic capacity of the plant by 60 million gallons per day (MGD) to 285 MGD from the current 225 MGD.

The HLD project is estimated to take about five years to complete.  This high-level disinfection is a pre-cursor to the future reclaiming of wastewater.
