Precautionary Boil Water Order issued after 12-inch water main break

(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) issued a Precautionary Boil Water Order after a 12-inch water main failed in the area of Northwest 36th Street and Northwest 37th Avenue.

WASD crews have shut down water in the area and are on site making repairs. Businesses located on Northwest 36th street between Northwest 36th Avenue and Northwest 38th Avenue. The affected area also includes the Pinnacle Plaza, a condominium community and the Fronton Trailer Park.

Due to the loss of pressure in the system, all water used for drinking or cooking purposes should be boiled until further notice prior to consumption.  Water should be brought to a full rolling boil for at least one minute.  There is no problem with using the water for bathing and other household needs.

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department will be sampling the water. Once all tests are cleared, the boil water restrictions will be lifted.

Traffic has also been affected. The intersection of the break has been closed with the exception of one eastbound lane on Northwest 36th Street.

Residents can contact the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department's Communications Center at 305-274-9272, 24 hours a day. It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers.
