MIAMI – In order to help the community during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Asian-American Advisory Board and the Elder Affairs Advisory Board, under the Office of Community Advocacy, coordinated the donation of 4,000 masks from the Chinese Association of Science, Education and Culture of South Florida (CASEC). Michael Liu, Director of Miami-Dade Public Housing Department, will accept the donation destined for the elderly public housing residents. The donation will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.
The Asian-American Advisory Board was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners, administration, community, and all agencies in Miami-Dade County, with respect to matters pertaining to the Asian-American community. In addition, the Board and its staff routinely assist people with their grievances and intervene with the appropriate parties to seek a resolution to issues the community faces.
The Elder Affairs Advisory Board’s mission is to expand the support for seniors in Miami-Dade County, while allowing them to play a more active role in the local government by crafting strategies to better meet their needs. The Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners, to distinguish the needs of the elderly community, which makes up 16 percent of the County’s population.
