Miami-Dade Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board stands in solidarity with the people of Guatemala


MIAMI – The Miami-Dade Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board (HAAB) under the Office of Community Advocacy, stands in solidarity with the people of Guatemala after Sunday’s eruption of Volcan de Fuego. On Tuesday, June 5, the volcano erupted for the second time leaving rescuers struggling to reach survivors scrambling for safety. While the death toll and the number of missing people keeps rising, the South Florida community comes together organizing donation centers at the locations below.

Donations needed are: Canned food or soups, juices, water, masks, antibiotics, disinfectants, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, diapers for babies and adults, medicines for respiratory infections, laundry detergent, feminine hygiene products, brushes and toothpaste, first aid kits and painkillers.

Through Operation Helping Hands, United Way Miami is accepting monetary donations online or by phone at 305-646‑7061 or 2-1-1 outside of business hours.

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is also collecting funds at JewishMiami.org/guatemala or by calling 305-576-400 ext. 428. Donation checks with the notation of “Fuego Volcano Relief” can be mailed to 4200 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33137.
