Miami-Dade County Asian-American Advisory Board coordinates the donation of masks and hand sanitizers for first responders

MIAMI – In order to help the community during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Asian-American Advisory Board (AAAB), under the Office of Community Advocacy, assisted Mike Wang, President of the Federation of Florida Chinese Associations and other sponsors during two donation efforts in the month of April.

On April 9, Strategic Administrative Officer Dr. James Poag from the City of Miami Gardens and representatives from the Miami Gardens Police Department received 2,800 masks, 2,000 pairs of disposable gloves, and 20 bottles of hand sanitizers for the first responders and essential personnel.

On April 23, the donation went to Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management and turned over to Director Frank Rollason to be used for the frontline workers keeping Miami-Dade County safe. This donation consisted of 3,500 masks, 3,000 pairs of disposable gloves, and 20 bottles of hand sanitizers.

Asian-American Advisory Board Vice-Chairman Dr. Li Zhang and board member Josephine Gordy coordinated the donation efforts with the following sponsors who are paying it forward: Federation of Florida Chinese Associations, Chinese Association of Science, Education and Culture of South Florida (CASEC), Florida Peace Reunification Promotion Association, Shandong Association, Hubei Association, Northeast Association, Guangdong Overseas Chinese Federation, Fujian Association, Wenzhou Association, Yunnan Association, Beijing Association, Sichuan Association, Shanghai Association, Hunan Association, Florida Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and United Chinese News of Florida.
