Miami-Dade County LGBTQ Advisory Board elects its Chair and Vice Chair

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Advisory Board, under the Office of Community Advocacy, elected its Chair and Vice Chair for the 2020 -2021 term during its May 6 Board Meeting.

Chairwoman Aiyana Angeni Gonzalez was appointed to the Miami-Dade County LGBTQ Advisory Board by Commissioner Eileen Higgins. Gonzalez is a trans-identified female, a Barry University School of Social Work grad student and community advocate through the Center for Human Rights and Social Justice. She is committed to improving the quality of life of individuals. Gonzalez’ mission is to bring awareness and education on the empowerment of intrapersonal communication and self-worth through the eradication of self-insufficiency and unworthiness, by way of mindfulness-based practices and narrative therapy techniques and tools.

Vice Chairwoman Lynare Robbins was appointed to the Board by Commissioner Jean Monestime. Robbins is the founder and president of Robbins Global Innovations, a boutique international relations consultancy firm. Robbins is a veteran of the United States Navy and is an advocate of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s Veterans for Smart Power network, which promotes international development and diplomacy to strengthen national security. Robbins holds an A.A. in Behavioral Science, a B.A. in Sociology, and a M.A. in Human Behavior and twenty years after she earned her first graduate degree, she went back to school and in 2020, she earned a second master’s in international Relations and Conflict Resolution. Robbins has volunteered professionally with numerous nonprofits in the South Florida area and serves on the LGBTQ Tourism Advisory Board for the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau. Robbins believes that to serve others, empathy and the genuine desire to see the world transform by good, along with a commitment for action are essential virtues for working in advocacy. Robbins is married to Carmen Suero where they live in Miami with their canine children, Audrey, Milo, Duke and Fiona.

The LGBTQ Advisory Board promotes Miami-Dade County as a place where LGBTQ-friendly businesses, residents and visitors can live, work and be part of a diverse and inclusive community. Miami-Dade County attracts more than one million LGBTQ visitors each year as well as individuals, businesses and professionals seeking to relocate to this community.

Among other duties, the LGBTQ Board will be making recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners with respect to all issues affecting or relating to the LGBTQ community. The Mayor and Commissioners nominate representatives to the LGBTQ Board.
