MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board (HAAB), under the Office of Community Advocacy, invites you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. HAAB will be kicking off their Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations on Thursday, Oct. 1, with a virtual Hispanic Art Expression Exhibit. A preview of this exhibit is available here.

During the month of September, the following countries celebrate the anniversary of their independence: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, México, and Chile. The observance of Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan and enacted into law in 1988 to cover a 30-day period which includes the last half of the month of Sept. and the first half of the month of Oct.

For more information on the board’s activities and events during Hispanic Heritage Month please visit HAAB’s webpage, Facebook and Twitter platforms, or contact HAAB’s Program Director Natalie Milian at [email protected] and/or 305-375-5098.
