MIAMI – The Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Miami Chapter donated 25,000 medical masks to Miami-Dade County on Sept. 30. Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson accepted the generous donation on behalf of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and her colleagues at the Board of County Commissioners. The Miami-Dade County Public Housing Department will receive 15,000 masks for their senior residents. Lotus House and Curley’s House Food Bank will each receive 5,000 masks.

“Although COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted in many places, the virus is still prevalent. We need to continue to make sure our most vulnerable populations have the tools they need to protect themselves,” Chairwoman Edmonson said.

This donation is part of the “Taiwan Can Help” initiative, 37 local Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce Chapters with a Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce North America fundraising to acquire more than 10 million masks. The Asia-American Advisory Board is coordinating the delivery of this donation together with the Miami-Dade International Trade Consortium, the Elders Affairs Advisory Board, the Commission for Women, the Domestic Violence Oversight Board, and the Black Affairs Advisory Board.

“We are grateful to Yale Huang and the members of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Miami, a great community partner of the Asian-American Advisory Board, for their kindness and generosity and to Director Sara Chen of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, International Trade Consortium Executive Director Jonathan Ward, and the board members of the Asian-American Advisory Board, the Black Affairs Advisory Board, the Commission for Women, the Domestic Violence Oversight Board, and the Elders Affairs Advisory Board for their support to make this combined effort a reality,” said Laura Morilla, Executive Director of the Office of Community Advocacy.
